Best Friends For Life
I have an old necklace that I never wear but can’t bring myself to throw away. It’s not expensive, that’s not the reason. It’s just that it holds so many memories that are both beautiful and horrible. I undo the clasp and put it around my neck. It’s heavier than I remember. But I carry the weight. In a way it’s similar to those memories, they’re heavy and they hurt sometimes, but I keep them anyway. I look in the mirror and I smile at the metal tag on the necklace, I’m sentimental to a fault. It reads “BFFL”. “Best Friends For Life” but she doesn’t reply to my messages, “Best Friends For Life” but we only share one class, “Best Friends For Life” and she still knows how to make me laugh. Can the relationship of a best friend be this one sided? Is it finally time to throw the necklace away?
